Bio of a Champion

Sam Monroe is President and Head Trainer of the Downtown Fitness Center in Salem, Oregon. He has spent his 20 year amateur and professional career as an athlete, student, trainer, gym owner, and educator in the health, sports and fitness industry since 1990. Sam was a top football and track athlete, broke some of his HS records, recruited by some of the best universities; West Point, Penn, Berkeley, BYU, Princeton, U of O, etc…. Throughout college to this present time, he has operated his own personal training programs and fitness centers in California and Oregon. He served Strength and Conditioning coach for a nationally ranked (#1 & #2 singles) CSUB women’s tennis team, as well as state ranked and undefeated Sprague HS, under the leadership of Coach Robin Hill. Sam even placed in the TOP 3 in a regional 2001 World’s Strongest Man competition. Sam’s expertise as a fitness/coach has made him a top trainer for West Coast celebrities, high school elite athletes, collegiate scholarship winners, NFL athletes, Olympic trial qualifiers, as well as fitness and beauty pageant competitors. Miss California, Mrs. Marion/Polk county, Miss Salem and Mrs. Oregon, just to name a few. He is a popular lecturer and has frequently consulted with the media on fitness and health issues. Sam has been a weekly “LIVE” guest on an NBC news TV affiliate (CA), numerous radio stations (CA & OR), He even wrote fitness advice columns for various local newspapers/entertainment magazines (CA & OR).

Locally, Sam was a USA registered amateur boxer, Former Asst. Varsity RB/LB coach at Sprague. Athletic Coordinator at the Boys and Girls Club. Coached at Parrish MS, City of Salem (soccer), Ambrose/South Salem and Battlecreek little leagues. Sam served as Regional Director for the American Heart Association and is a member of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce… where he actually won the 1999 New Business of the Year award with a different gym than he owns now. Sam is current registered as a Professional Boxer(#OR076973) in the State of Oregon.
